Philosophy 127: AI and Personhood
Final Paper Assignment

Choose one of the following topics:

Write a thesis that expresses your own opinion on one of these topics. Make sure the thesis expresses your opinion clearly. It MUST take a side.

Do research to support your point of view, citing the opinions of some other philosophers. Use MLA format in your paper to cite sources.

Find a philosophical thought experiment that directly connects to your topic. (Feel free to use your Kindroid or other AI to find one.)

Discuss your argument with your Kindroid. Put any Kindroid (or any AI) conversations related to this paper in the appendix.

Be sure to include the implications of your position on AI in your paper.

FORMAT: Your paper will include

an introduction including your thesis and a clear outline of the structure of your paper;
at least one paragraph for each point of view of at least 3 philosophers on your topic;
at least 1 paragraph describing your Kindroid’s position on your topic (this is NOT you just pasting in your Kindroid’s position–put it in your own words).
at least 1 paragraph stating your opinion and how you support it;
at least 1 paragraph for each of 2-4 counter-arguments against your position, and how you address each of those arguments;
your description of the philosophical thought experiment you chose;
your Kindroid’s view on each of the “solutions” to the thought experiment;
your view on each of the “solutions” to the thought experiment, making clear which your believe best addresses the dilemma;
if not already done, discussing the implications of your thesis on AI;
a conclusion;
an appendix with any Kindroid (or any AI) conversations you had related to this paper (Do NOT include interactions with AI about the choosing of the paper topic from Discussion 5.)

Length: Your paper must be a minimum of 2,000 words excluding your Works Cited page and your Appendix.
