The Socr-AI-tic Lab serves as a hub for research, development, and implementation of AI-integrated pedagogical practices. It is overseen by a Lab Director and a Technical Coordinator, and supported by a team of graduate and undergraduate research assistants/interns.

Meet the Faculty

Mark

Director – Mark Jacobs

Responsible for program design, research direction, faculty coordination, internship supervision, and partnership development. Jacobs is a professor at Clark University, where he teaches in both the Master’s in AI program and the undergraduate philosophy department. He is a Clark alumnus (BA in Philosophy, MFA Digital Media Design), an academic in the field of education (MA in Teaching, Manhattanville College), and the founder/former director of Longview School, a K–12 independent school he led for 22 years. Mark’s current research focuses on the use of customized large language models as dialogic learning companions and evaluators.

Technical Coordinator – Shivansh Awasthi

Responsible for app and website development, technical support, system implementation, and data management. Awasthi completed his BS in Mechanical Engineering and is a Clark alumnus, having completed his MFA in Digital Media Design. He is also a part-time professor in Clark's Master’s in IT program. He brings both academic and industry experience, with expertise in platforms such as Unreal Engine, Mendix, and WordPress. He served as lead programmer on Zenobia and Arcadia ed tech applications, and has experience working in UI/UX, AI programming and front-end website development.
